APIs are the underpinning and plumbing of nearly every system that SaaS companies use. Potentially hundreds of hours are invested in the design, development, and deployment of APIs. After all of that, the only important component of an API is the data that it manages, and with everything else needed it often doesn’t get the attention it should.

Many engineers know the complexities with building good APIs, and the pressures of operating them. Everything from databases, gateways, security, to standardizing responses and generating documentation. There are hundreds of decisions to make when developing an API, and it can be overwhelming to get started.

Spend time where it’s most important

Most of those API “complexities” are solved. There are hundreds of frameworks, ORMs, cloud providers, and other SaaS solutions that anyone could put together themselves and deploy an API. But why spend time doing all of that when the only thing you care about is the data?
